The possible influence regarding to the regulatory authorities nullifying the registration of
capital increase to PLT

5.Cause of occurrence:

(1)The controlling interests of the company in Pacific Liu Tung Investment Corporation (PLT)remain
the same before the final judgment of the civil litigation brought by the court.

(2)The influence from PLT shall be limited by providing the fact that the company reported its net
income of NT$ 5.895 billion for the first three quarters in 2009, in which the investment income
attributed from PLT is NT$ 0.32 billion, representing 5.4% of the bottom line.

(3)The company has no need to restate its previous financial statements, according to the attorneys
and accountants’ opinions, in response to the registration of PLT’s capital increase nullified by the
Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Economic Affairs on 3 Feb 2010.
