Taoyuan North District Water Resources Recycling Center cooperates with Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) Co. Ltd and Taoyuan Refinery Plant- 40,000 tons of recycled water can be supplied in stage one.

Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan attended Taoyuan North District Water Resources Recycling Center's recycled water use contract signing ceremony on October 13. He said that there is now serious water shortage in Taiwan and the water level of Shimen Reservoir is the lowest ever at this time of year. This gives the signing of a recycled water use contract by the city government and Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) and CPC Corporation (Taiwan) great significance. With funding from the central government, the city government invested NT$4.9 billion in promoting the Taoyuan North District Water Resources Recycling Center water recycling plan engineering project. Stage 1 will be completed in 2024 and will supply around 40,000 tons of recycled water per day, eventually supplying 110,000 tons a day when completed. Mayor Cheng thanked the two enterprises for leading the way in signing a recycled water use contract, in doing so echoing the idea of the circular economy.

Mayor Cheng said that Shimen Reservoir is the lifeline of Taoyuan and has around 200 million cubic meters of storage capacity. The annual number of uses needs to be more than five times to meet consumption water volume of Taoyuan City as a whole. Affected by lack of rainfall and serious silting of the reservoir etc., water storage is only 43% of capacity at present, making the water supply burden heavy. In recent years, the city government has actively promoted the circular economy, as well as encouraging the development of low water consumption industries and agriculture and requiring that the enterprises of the industrial zone of Taoyuan Aerotropolis must have recycled water accounting for 35% of water use, the city government has also built north Taiwan's first water recycling plant, aiming to provide stable industrial water supply by reuse of water resources.
